Ceramics

raku fired ceramic dish, the outer edge is glazed white and divided by four copper colored hexagons at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions, the center of the dish has an inscribed Cretan labyrinth design with an incised stylized horns (known as the horns of consecration) above the labyrinth and under the top copper hexagon).

This is one of my favorite pieces of art I’ve made. The hardest part was incising the labyrinth in the bottom of the dish so that it would be properly centered. I burnished all of the non-incised parts, including the underneath, so that it would have a smooth finish. This piece is dedicated to Minoan Crete, which is a source of inspiration for me.
